Holland Park Tube Station

Holland Park in London is an Underground Station, on the Central Line it lays between Shepherd’s Bush and Notting Hill Gate stations, in Travelcard Zone 2. Designed for the Central London Railway, the building as typical designed by harry Bell Measures. Built in 1900 the building was given a flat roof hoping that extensions would take place, of that which has not taken place to this day except for refurbishment in 1990s. In 1958 there was an unfortunate incident of a passenger dying due to fire on the Central Line train at Holland Park.

Covent Garden

An area historically entwined in Britain’s economy. During the 16th century the land was a part of Anglos-Saxton trading and later the town abandoned and used as arable land and orchards by the Westminster Abbey being called ‘ the garden of the Abbey and Convent’. Formerly in history to be known as a fruit and vegetable market now is a popular tourist attraction with pubs, theatre, independent shops, elegant building and sources of entertainment. One has many to do on entering Covent Garden.

In the 18th century, Covent Garden was a popular red light district attracting notable prostitutes such as Betty Careless and Jane Douglas. Harris’s List of Covent Garden Ladies was an essential guide to know where to find prostitutes describing each Covent Garden lady.

In 1979 the Covent Garden market reopened as a retail centre. In 2010 The Piazza opened the largest apple store. The Royal Opera House is a landmark and also called the ‘Covent Garden’. The house seats 2,268 people and has 4 tiers of boxes, balcony and amphitheatre gallery. As many iconic sites in London are entwined in some crime or conspiracy the pavement outside The Royal Opera House holds a similar story. The mistress of the Earl of Sandwich, Martha Ray was murdered by her admirer James Hackman.

Theatre Royal on Dury Lane has been restored four times. Famous personalities have performed in this theatre such as the child actress Clara Fisher, Shakespearan actor Edmund Kean, comedian Dan Leno, etc. A dedicated flower market, a Victorian iron and glass building was built by Willima Cubitt but has been occupied by the London Transport Musuem since its construction.

In order to make your tour in London more attractive our Holiday Lets London staff would recommend adding Piccadilly Circus to your plate of attractions to experience the progress of commerce and economy of Britain. Though Piccadilly Circus has a similar nature of things to do, Covent Garden has a different environment and experience in store.

There are many attractions in London that are iconic and requires a bit of time to tour and experience. One would suggest that self catering accommodation is much more convenient and economical when looking to rent a flat in London comparatively to hotel rooms. Abundant London holiday studios are available where Holiday Lets London short term excels due to proximity, professionalism in handling booking and the amicability of the Holiday Lets London short stay staff.

Covent Garden has 13 theatres and over 60 bars and pubs. There are street performances in every day of the year at the Covent Garden except for Christmas Day. Shows run every day for 30 minutes. The Lamb & Flag is the oldest pub in the area whereas The Harp in Chandos Place has won many awards including the London Pub Of The year in 2008.

For further information on travel time to your desired tourist attraction sites and other information please call us on our Holiday Lets London hotline as we are available around the clock or e mail us to obtain a prompt reply from one of Holiday Lets London staff.
